TabSRMM Version 3

Development for TabSRMM Version 3 has started quite a while ago and is currently still in an early stage. There have been 1000's of changes in recent weeks and while the major rewrites are more or less finished, there is still quite a lot of work left.

Version 3 will be quite different from previous versions in many ways. There are a few new features and many changes to existing features. Also, TabSRMM 3 has been optimized and major internal changes will make it work faster while using less resources at the same time.

A few features were removed from the plugin in order to clean the code up and remove redundant or poorly implemented code.

Right now, the plugin is not available for download but people who know how to compile Miranda plugins can obtain the code from SVN.

I've created a few pages specifically for TabSRMM 3. You should read them before using it.

More will come in the next weeks and months.

Aero support in TabSRMM

Aero look for TabSRMM 3

Vista has been around for almost 3 years now, and while it was not the biggest success in the history of Windows, it is widely used today. More so, the successor, Windows 7, is already standing just around the corner

So, it’s time to move on make some use out of the features Windows Vista and Windows 7 have to offer. The now well-known Aero Glass UI is clearly better than the somewhat bulky and not very pretty standard UI in Windows XP. Whether Aero is useful or not is debatable, but it does look attractive

Current status

Aero support shuld be considered an experimental feature. It basically works, but there may be issues. It is, however, stable and most issues are probably only small visual defects that do not prevent you from using the plugin.

tabSRMM MadMOD

Some day ago, a heavily modified build of tabSRMM[1] was released on the official Miranda forum. The author, Mad Cluster, added a lot of new features, some of them being quite popular requests which I never implemented. Some of these things include:

  • fully customizable button bar
  • merged typing notify plugin (with popups)
  • animated .GIF avatars
  • many small fixes or other improvements

What this means for tabSRMM's future

Actually, good things. Since my time was and still is limited to implement new features (in the last months, I mainly focused on stability) new things may appear more frequently in the future.

I agreed with the author to merge all the changes into the official version so we can avoid splitting the code and confuse people by having multiple different versions of tabSRMM.

In the future, the best thing would be to work cooperatively on the plugin, develop new things independently from the main source code and merge them into the official Miranda sources when they have proven to be stable and working.

Temporary downloads for tabSRMM

Since the File Listing is still down and there is still no ETA for its re-opening, I've made the decision to upload the stable builds for tabSRMM on my googlecode site.

These plugins are built from the stable branch and are identical from the file listing versions which are currently unavailable. They should be used with Miranda 0.7.x ONLY and are not compatible with current Miranda development builds (alpha releases).

If you are using development builds, you should use the tabSRMM versions which come with these builds. Read here for more info about how to obtain and use a development build.

Revamped message log settings

This applies to: tabSRMM, beginning with version 2.1.0.0, 2008/02/13, released with Miranda 0.8 alpha build #10.
New dialog to set local message log options

The message log settings logic has changed in this build to improve usability. The following things were implemented:

  • Removed the options from the message log menu. The menu is still present though, however, the number of entries have been reduced. Instead of cascading submenus to set the options, two new entries are in place:
    • Set global messaging log options (will open the message log option page).
    • Set local messaging options (this will open the "per contact" messaging options dialog.
    • Additionally, there are two entries which allow to import and export message log settings (also known as themes.
  • Renamed the contact menu entry from "tabSRMM Settings..." to "Messaging settings...".
  • The option page Message Sessions->Message log[tab] now holds all available options, including the settings for timestamps.

Options added or changed in the global message log options dialog

  • show timestamps
  • show dates in timestamps
  • show seconds in timestamps
  • support BBCODE formatting (enable BBCODE in the message history log)

Sound Volume plugin updated

This is a small update only

No new features. The only change is the implementation of the new plugin interface which will soon be a requirement for Miranda 0.8 (currently in early alpha development stage).

This is for people who are testing preview builds of Miranda 0.8 ONLY. Please do not download this when you are still running a stable Miranda version (0.7.x or earlier) as this may not work.

The binary archive contains both UNICODE and ANSI versions of the plugin in separate folders. Obviously, you should only install one of them :)

Current tabSRMM code no longer compatible with Miranda 0.7 (and earlier)

Warn.png this also applies to Clist Nicer.

As of early February, 2008, the changes related to the new protocol/account system in Mirandas core make it necessary to break a few things. Consequently, tabSRMM or Clist Nicer code taken from the trunk will refuse to work on current stable Miranda core builds.

What this means

You can no longer run tabSRMM builds compiled from trunk code in stable Miranda 0.7. If you want to build tabSRMM from source and have it compatible with 0.7, you must use the stable branch from SVN.

TabSRMM 2.0 and Clist Nicer 0.8 released

A few days ago, Miranda 0.7 final was released. You can read more here.

To compliment this, I've released the 0.7 compatible versions of my plugins to the file listing. Please note that these plugins will not work with older Miranda versions. Also, make sure to update these plugins after you updated Miranda to 0.7. Do not use tabSRMM 1.x.x.x or Clist Nicer 0.7.x.x under Miranda 0.7.

The older versions, which are still compatible with Miranda 0.6 or earlier, have not been removed from the file listing. You can still find tabSRMM 1.0.0.x and Clist Nicer 0.7.x.x there.
